This is my breast cancer awareness tribute to two beautiful women. This shimmery ballerina pink on my pinky and ring is called “For My Jacq” and the matching glitter is called “Liebe Mechti.”
These women were my friends and the only two people I know claimed by breast cancer. I loved them; still do. I think of them so often. Jacque was my aunt by marriage, and one of my best friends when I was a teenager. Mechtild was my German teacher in high school, and a tremendous mentor to me. I called and talked to her on the phone many times in college and after. Her and Jacque were sick around the same time in the mid 2000s, which is when I was closest to both of them.
Both of them beat breast cancer once only to be claimed by different, more aggressive cancers several years into remission.
